Armrest

A gorgeous sunny day here in Maple Ridge. Unfortunately, I had to sleep through it as I worked nightshift. This is a picture that I took last week at Haney Wharf. A grat place to enjoy a morning coffee!

ABC Wednesday - F

F is for Flying Fowl. Perhaps even a Falcon?
I had my camera aimed at him as he sat atop the tree. I was lucky to catch him as he took flight.

Red Fence

I am fascinated by these red windbreaks which are lined up along the beach at Harrison Lake, about 40 minutes east of Maple Ridge.

Another E Word.

E is for Eclipse.

Just a beautiful sight. The total lunar eclipse was a spectacular show. We have no streetlights in our neighbourhood so it was nice and dark. The early evening had been cloudy, but the clouds gratefully cleared just in time. The next total lunar eclipse in this area won;t be until 2010.

D IS FOR DAISY.

This is one from my archives, you may recognize it as my signature photo.

Taken in 2004, it was one of my first photos with the digital camera. Taken on macro setting, I floated the flower on the surface of a swimming pool.

Equine Sign

This was one that I considered posting for our theme day. You know you are in Maple Ridge when....You see signs like this.

We have quite a lot of riding trails. Some are up in the mountains , but some are closer to town and cross over roadways. Some places, horses must share the road with cars to get to and from the stable and the trails.

This clock mounted on a store front in town makes a handy time piece for local shoppers. This building was renovated last year and has had some nice extra touches added. I love the yellow paint.

ABC Wednesday 'C'

C is for Cement Truck.
Or is is it concrete? I'm not sure I know the difference. Anyways, I liked how shiney this huge mixing machine is.
Thanks for stopping by, hope you have a great day.

I like the strong block of colour in this picture. The tools leaning against the wall add interest.

February 2008 Theme Day

"When people think of my city, they think of . . . the Golden Ears Mountains and Horses.
These mountains tower over Maple Ridge and are the best known landmark of my city. I have posted dozens of photos of these mountains. CLICKING ON ANY OF THE HIGHLIGHTED WORDS WILL DIERECT YOU TO LINKS OF THE MOUNTAINS IN PREVIOUS POSTS. Under a blanket of snow they are most glorious, especially on a sunny clear day. But they are equally eye-catching peeking out from under the fog and clouds. Or lit up by the setting sun, which makes them appear golden or often times even pink. I have posted them in summer, with the rugged peaks devoid of snow and the rock face showing. By now, I am certain that when I post a shot of these hills, regular CDP participants will see them in the portal an think "Oh yeah, these are the mountains in Maple Ridge again. They may be a repetetive topic on my site, but they always make for a beautiful photograph, whatever weather or season. I also included horses in this theme as Maple Ridge's nickname is HORSE CAPITAL OF CANADA. I myself don't ride, but many residents here do. We had fresh snow a couple of days ago and it really makes for wonderful photo opportunities.
There are currently 136 blogs participating in this theme day. Please take some time to visit these other theme day participants.

Walking through deep snow is difficult when you are just learning to toddle.

But dad helped her back onto her feet, and she plodded onwards. Afterall, when you have a new pink snowsuit, you simply must be SEEN!

Blue Light District.

The snow has started and Memorial Peace Park does indeed look Peaceful tonight. I know it is a waste of electric, but I am glad the city has left these few trees bearing the blue lights. I think it looks so pretty.

BOARDERTOWN

Tucked at the base of our local mountains is this little movie set. It has been used for numerous movies and TV shows.
It was never actually occupied as far as I know. It was built for the film industry, which has become very popular here.

Finally, a lovely afternoon of sunshine. A few clouds on the horizon made for a breath-taking sunset.

Ice Cream Castles.

The gloom persists. I love to photograph clouds. This was actually taken at White Rock, which is right at the sea, about an hours drive south-west of here.

Oh for a blue sky once more!

The last time we had nice weather here seems so long ago, so I am posting a photo from a walk back in early December. Since then we have had mostly rain or snow. I am aching for some sunshine! The next nice day we get will be spectacular because the mountains will be covered in snow and will be breathtaking. The nice winter days here are so beautiful that it is worth waiting through day after day of gloom.

Old Iron

Built by Empire Iron co in Vancouver BC. This is part of an old steam engine which sits up in the University of BC research forest, which sits in the foot hills of the Golden Ears Mountains. It use to be used to haul logs out of the woods. We went up there for a walk on New Years Day.

ABC Wednesday Letter V.

Here are a few V words that I found in Wikpedia to go with this photo of my green glass. The pattern on the glass is even made of a repeating 'v'.

VERBOMANIA - craze for words
VERRE - Fr. Meaning glass
VITREOUS - Of, or resembling glass
VERT- the name of a tincture roughly equivalent to the colour "green".

Christmas Parade

Last night, Maple Ridge held its annual Christmas Parade. Despite to cold, there was a huge turn out. For about the past five years, it has started at 6pm. It feels so festive with all the christmas lights on in the town green.
The snow drifted down lightly making for a definite mood for the season.
This real estate agent float was a big hit with the gingerbread house. In the distance you can see the bandstand lit up.
